The US earnings season unofficially kicks off tonight when JP Morgan, Wells Fargo and Citigroup all report ahead of the opening bell. Wall Street is currently torn between looking ahead to great earnings results and worrying about trade, with earnings currently in front.

We’ll see if next week lives up to expectations.

Meanwhile, amidst the machinations of US-China trade relations, China today releases June trade numbers and next week June quarter GDP, along with monthly industrial production, retail sales and fixed asset investment numbers.

US data next week include retail sales, industrial production, housing starts and the Fed Beige Book.

Australia also sees retail sales, along with the June jobs numbers and the minutes of the June RBA meeting.

On the local stock front, resource sector quarterly reporting season ramps up next week, with production and sales numbers due from Oil Search ((OSH)), Rio Tinto ((RIO)), Whitehaven Coal ((WHC)), BHP ((BHP)), Evolution Mining ((EVN)), South32 ((S32)), Santos ((STO)) and Woodside Petroleum ((WPL)).

An early earnings result from Cimic ((CIM)) reminds us that the local earnings season will also soon be upon us.
