What’s Happening Next Week?

Leading into the new financial year in Australia looks to be a busy time for economic data releases globally, with potentially important numbers coming out of all major economies. In Australia, the releases start on Tuesday with Reserve Bank of Australia credit aggregates for May and new home sales data for the same month along with the AiG performance of manufacturing index numbers for June.

Wednesday will see May retail sales and building approvals data along with the RBA’s commodity index and skilled vacancy numbers for June, while Thursday there will be May trade balance details and the AiG performance of services index for June.

Over in New Zealand, the market will be looking for May trade balance and building permit numbers on Monday, Tuesday will see the release of National Bank of New Zealand business confidence figures for June and on Thursday there will be the latest on commodity prices provided by the ANZ Bank.

Heading north China is set to release PMI manufacturing data for June on Wednesday, while out of Japan there will be a number of releases including May industrial production and retail trade numbers on Monday, along with the latest unemployment and household spending figures and June manufacturing PMI data. On Tuesday there will be housing starts and construction orders for May while Wednesday should see the release of the Tankan Index for the June quarter.

Out of Europe the market is expecting consumer confidence and business climate indicator numbers for June on Monday followed by CPI data for June on Tuesday, PMI manufacturing figures for the same month on Wednesday and a big day on Thursday when the European Central Bank makes its latest decision on interest rates. Also that day there will be May unemployment and PMI numbers, followed by May retail sales and June PMI composite numbers on Friday.

UK data releases include May consumer credit and mortgage approval data along with June consumer confidence figures on Monday, March quarter GDP, business investment and current account numbers on Tuesday and June PMI manufacturing numbers on Wednesday. These will be followed by June PMI construction numbers on Thursday and PMI services data for the same month on Friday.

From the US there will be the latest S&P/Case Shiller update on house prices on Tuesday along with June consumer confidence and Chicago PMI numbers, while Wednesday will see May construction spending and pending home sales data along with June ISM manufacturing figures.

On Thursday the US will release May factors orders and June non-farm payroll and unemployment data along with the regular weekly jobless claim figures, while on Friday the US market is closed for the July 4th holiday.

Corporate-wise in Australia the week the calendar shows shareholder meetings set for the likes of Funtastic ((FUN)), Style Limited ((SYP)), India Equities Fund ((INE)), Allied Brands ((ABQ)), Iatia ((IAT)), Zingmobile ((ZMG)), Cobar Consolidated Resources ((CCU)), Connixion ((CXN)) and White Energy ((WEC)).
