All major markets bar Japan and China are closed on Monday and again on Tuesday except for the US, for which it is back to business. For the US, Christmas is but a blip. In Australia, we’re pretty much in for a ten day break from today even though the ASX is officially open Wednesday to Friday next week.

The only local data release of note next week is private sector credit on Friday.

The US will see the Richmond Fed index, house prices, pending home sales, consumer confidence, trade and the Chicago PMI across the week.

Japan will release industrial production, retail sales and unemployment numbers.

On the local stock front, there is a big rush of ex-dividends  on Thursday, including a large number of REITs and developers along with Transurban ((TCL)) and Sydney Airport ((SYD)), so be warned of a significant ASX200 handicap on the day.

Moving on to the following week, China is the only major market not to close on New Year’s Day. New Zealand is closed on the Tuesday as well and Japan is closed Monday through Wednesday.

Global manufacturing PMIs are due on the Tuesday and services PMIs on the Wednesday.

Australia’s trade balance is out on the Friday.

The US will see construction spending, factory orders and the December jobs numbers. The Fed holds a policy meeting that week – Janet Yellen’s last as chair.

There are no scheduled local corporate events to speak of in the week.

FNArena will shut up shop from today for the two week summer break, returning to business as usual on January 15. The website will remain fully accessible over that time.
