The focus is squarely on US tax reform next week. On the assumption the Senate’s tax bill is passed either before or during next week, the process then moves into negotiation between both houses to see if one bill can emerge from competing interests. Then that has to be passed.
The premium built into Wall Street vis a vis tax suggests any stumble along the path could trigger a rather poor response.
It’s the first week of the month so once we get past global services PMIs on Tuesday, the focus will be on US jobs, with the private sector numbers out on Wednesday and non-farm payrolls on Friday.
US data releases next week also include factory orders, trade and consumer sentiment.
In Australia we’ll see numbers for September quarter company profits and inventories and the current account, including the terms of trade, ahead of Wednesday’s release of September quarter GDP.
Monthly data next week include job ads, retail sales, trade and housing finance.
China releases trade numbers on Friday.
As we head into the last week of the month, corporate events slow to a crawl. Next week’s highlights will be CSL’s ((CSL)) R&D day along with AGMs for TPG Telecom ((TPM)) and Westpac ((WBC)).
I had suggested the S&P/ASX index rebalancing announcement will be today. It isn’t. Announcements are now made one week ahead of coming into effect rather than the prior two. Next Friday is the day.
