Tonight is the US is Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. Sales tonight and on the online equivalent next week, Cyber Monday, will determine whether US retailers have a Merry Christmas. For the markets it is a half-session following Thanksgiving. The NYSE will close at 1pm.

It’s back to business next week nevertheless with a solid round of US data releases, culminating in the all-important jobs numbers on Friday. Releases include the Chicago PMI, pending home sales, vehicle and chain store sales, private sector jobs, construction spending, factory orders and trade. The Fed will release its Beige Book on Wednesday and Janet Yellen will deliver a speech, two weeks ahead of the critical Fed meeting.

Tuesday is the first of the month which means manufacturing PMIs from Australia, China, Japan, the eurozone, UK and US. The round is repeated on Thursday for service sector PMIs.

The ECB will hold a policy meeting on Thursday, at which QE extension is expected to be confirmed.

It’s a very busy week for Australian data, the highlight being the release of the September quarter GDP result on Wednesday. Quarterly data releases ahead of the result include company profits and inventories and the current account, including the terms of trade.

Monthly data next week include private sector credit, building approvals, the PMIs, trade balance and retail sales.

The RBA will meet on Tuesday but no change is expected.

On the local stock front, the last trickle of late season AGMs will be held across the month. Collins Foods ((CKF)) will report half-year earnings on Wednesday.

On Friday, promotions/regulations to and from the S&P/ASX stock indices will be announced, ahead of implementation on December 18.
