About one year ago FNArena Editor Rudi Filapek-Vandyck appeared on Switzer TV and declared: Peter, the underlying dynamics for the resources industry are changing and they are changing dramatically so. Today nobody is paying attention, but we will hear a lot about this next year. Mark my words.

One year later and questions such as "what happened to the share price of Santos ((STO))?" or to "Newcrest ((NCM))" can be heard daily on financial television, not to mention the many blogs and chatrooms on the internet. Did anyone mention that Woodside ((WPL) shares have now lost 50% since their peak in 2008 or that everyone who bought shares in BHP Billiton ((BHP)) since April 2009 is now under water?

Internationally, analysts have dared to question whether this is the final stage of the Commodities Super Cycle, a public debate that is unfortunately completely absent in Australia where the public fixation with China's demand for natural resources from Australia overshadows everything else. Surely this story can never end?

The FNArena Editor dares to ask the question and shares some insights as to why he thinks the Super Cycle's inner characteristics have changed, with smaller cycles replacing the once ubiquitous long-term uptrend. But what does it mean for investors in the share market?
